Moby - Alice

Moby - Alice

Fans of the slapheaded vegan activist will be pleased to hear that Richard Melville Hall has ditched the “proper” songs of 2005’s Hotel album and, most importantly, doesn’t sing on this taster from his forthcoming seventh album. ‘Alice’ sounds much like the slow-motion techno of his worldwide smash Play, with a dirty rolling bassline, guitar licks and some Nigerian hip-hoppers rapping at pace over the top. It’s all a bit 1999, but it suits the diminutive DJ far better than traditional rock songs. Now, who wants to license it for an advert?

Guillemots - Get Over It

Guillemtos - Get Over It

The first fruits of Guillemots’ follow-up to their critically lauded debut album Through The Windowpane reveal a band tightening up and letting rip – if indeed you can combine the two. ‘Get Over It’ is as brash as its title hints, all yelled chorus and enormous, splashy synth chords. Some terrifying ghosts rear up – the ‘80s colossi of Simple Minds and Deacon Blue, to name a couple – but if you believe those ghosts ever did anything wonderful at all, then this fantastic, undeniable single and its brave parent album Red are most definitely for you. Go on, surrender.
